MixWave has unveiled the Pultec EQP-1S3 plugin, a digital recreation of the iconic EQP-1S3 hardware equalizer. Developed in partnership with Pultec (Pulse Techniques, LLC), this plugin brings the distinctive analog sound of the hardware into a modern, software-based format. By employing proprietary component-level modeling, MixWave has sought to faithfully replicate the tonal characteristics and precision of the original unit while introducing features tailored for contemporary workflows.

Expanded Frequency Control

Building on the foundation of the celebrated EQP-1A, the EQP-1S3 introduces additional flexibility with expanded frequency options. New boost frequencies at 1 kHz and 2 kHz, along with high-frequency shelf boosts at 5 kHz and 10 kHz, provide engineers with greater tonal shaping capabilities. This expanded range allows users to enhance depth, presence, and air, giving the EQP-1S3 a broader scope than its predecessors.

Refined Low-End Shaping

The plugin offers precise control over bass frequencies, with three of the four low-end frequency settings modified for more practical applications. The updated curves enable users to address low-end muddiness, add clarity to kick drums, or introduce analog weight to mixes. These refinements aim to deliver a rich and powerful low end that integrates seamlessly into modern productions.

Tube and Solid-State Variants

The EQP-1S3 plugin includes emulations of both the tube and solid-state versions of the hardware. The solid-state model, known as the EQP-1S3-SS, incorporates a 2520 op-amp, providing a tighter low end and a cleaner tonal profile compared to the harmonically rich tube version. This dual-mode functionality gives users the ability to switch between the warmth of tube amplification and the precision of solid-state processing, expanding the creative possibilities.

Features for Modern Workflows

To cater to the needs of today’s producers, MixWave has integrated several plugin-exclusive features:

  • Wet/Dry Mix Controls: Enables instant parallel processing for more versatile signal blending.
  • Input and Output Filters: High-pass and low-pass filters allow precise control before and after the EQ processing.
  • Component-Level Modeling: Captures the analog warmth and precision of the original hardware.

Pultec EQP-1S3 Plugin: Pricing and Availability
