Heritage Audio, known for its high-quality analog-inspired audio equipment, has released the BritStrip Plugin, a software adaptation of its BritStrip hardware console channel strip. Available now, this plugin aims to bring the sound of classic analog recording equipment into the digital realm.

Features and Design

The BritStrip Plugin incorporates several elements inspired by Heritage Audio’s analog designs. The plugin includes a 73-style EQ, modeled after classic British analog equalizers, and a diode-bridge compressor, similar to the one featured in Heritage Audio’s hardware Successor stereo bus compressor.

The EQ section offers flexible tone-shaping options:

  • Inductor-based design for rich, analog-style sound.
  • High-pass filter to clean up low-end frequencies without affecting the tonal balance.
  • High-shelf and low-shelf settings with bell mode for greater versatility.
  • A mid-band EQ suited for enhancing snares, guitars, and vocals without phase distortion, even at extreme settings.

The compressor provides dynamic control with a blend function for parallel compression and a sidechain filter to focus the compression on specific frequency ranges.

Additionally, the plugin allows for pre- and post-compression EQ routing, offering flexibility in tailoring the interaction between the EQ and compression.

Two Versions to Suit Different Needs

In a notable move, Heritage Audio has released two versions of the BritStrip Plugin:

  1. A “lighter” version, omitting the preamp model for those who prefer a simpler tool.
  2. A “full” version, which includes a modeled 73-style preamp for added tonal character.

This decision follows feedback from early testers, highlighting the value of offering options to accommodate different workflows.

Compatibility and Pricing

The BritStrip Plugin is compatible with 64-bit AAX, AU, and VST3 formats on macOS (10.15.7 and higher, including Apple Silicon support) and Windows (10 and 11). It requires an iLok account for activation, with a 14-day fully functional trial available.

Pricing details:

  • Both versions are available for purchase at €99.00 EUR/$99.00 USD.
  • Owners of Heritage Audio’s BritStrip hardware or i73® PRO family products can access the plugins for free by completing a redemption form on Heritage Audio’s website.

A DSP version of the lighter plugin, optimized for i73® PRO family interfaces, is also available.

Availability

The BritStrip Plugin is available now for purchase directly from Heritage Audio’s website.
