Pro audio manufacturer Audient has announced its latest addition to the iD range of audio interfaces: the iD48. Debuting at NAMM 2025, the iD48 is an 8-channel USB-C audio interface designed to cater to producers, engineers, and audio professionals seeking robust I/O options and high-quality performance in a desktop unit.
Key Features and Specifications
The iD48 offers a 24-input and 32-output configuration, with 24 outputs accessible over USB. The interface incorporates eight Audient Console Mic Preamps—renowned for their low noise, low distortion, and 68dB of gain. These preamps use the same discrete circuitry found in Audient’s flagship ASP8024-HE recording console.
Audient has integrated advanced 32-bit ESS converter technology into the iD48, delivering a dynamic range of 126.5dB on its DACs. This is designed to preserve subtle audio details while minimizing quality loss during conversion. The iD48 also supports expansion via ADAT, S/PDIF, and SMUX, enabling users to connect up to 16 additional channels of external mic preamps.
Switchable Analog Inserts and Flexible Routing
A standout feature of the iD48 is its new Switchable Analog Insert technology, which simplifies integrating outboard gear. This feature allows users to toggle between the Audient Console Mic Preamp and a DAW output for routing audio to external hardware on a per-channel basis, without physically reconfiguring cables. Users can also bypass the preamps entirely for direct ADC conversion.
Monitoring and Control
The iD48 functions as a comprehensive monitor controller, featuring Main and Alt speaker outputs, along with additional line outputs that can feed an external headphone amplifier for artist monitoring. Two independent headphone outputs with 124dB dynamic range support headphones up to 600 Ohms.
The interface is fully compatible with the iD Mixer software, which facilitates ultra-low latency direct monitoring, stereo cue mix creation, and layout preset management. Additional hardware features include user-defined function keys, a word clock I/O for synchronization, and standalone mode functionality.
Build and Design
Housed in an all-metal chassis, the iD48 comes with detachable rack ears, allowing for both desktop and rack-mounted configurations. The unit supports up to 24-bit/96kHz resolution and is USB 2.0 compliant.
Pricing and Availability
The iD48 is set to launch on March 3, 2025, with a retail price of $999 in the US, €899 in Europe, and £799 in the UK. Attendees at NAMM 2025 can visit the KORG booth (#6903, Hall C) from January 23 to 25 for a first look at the new interface.
