Music Midtown 2022 has been cancelled, reportedly due to state gun laws preventing the festival organizers, Live Nation, from banning firearms at the event which draws a crowd of an estimated 50,000 attendees each year. Their full update reads:
Hey Midtown fans – due to circumstances beyond our control, Music Midtown will no longer be taking place this year. We were looking forward to reuniting in September and hope we can all get back to enjoying the festival together again soon.

The annual music festival has been held in Atlanta, Georgia’s Piedmont Park for years without issue, but faced a new challenge this year with state legislation making it impossible for the festival organizers to enforce a gun ban in the park. Paired with a rise in gun violence including several domestic terrorists targeting large music festivals, the organizers were put in an impossible position where they did not feel comfortable moving forward as planned.
Here’s to hoping that local legislators will reconsider their position ahead of next year – losing a massive annual festival because the organizers are trying to foster a safe and secure environment for concertgoers is unacceptable.
